News

Use News to create articles and announcements that can appear in a main news listing and on individual news detail pages.

How News works

  • create and manage articles in News
  • the main news listing is typically a normal page in Pages, often with the slug news
  • individual articles use their own /news/{slug} URLs
  • the detail view is rendered through the page whose slug is news-detail
  • smaller preview blocks can be added with the News Teasers (3) Section

Create or update a news item

  1. Go to News in the Club Management Portal.
  2. Click Create News, or open an existing item to edit it.
  3. Complete the setup fields and content fields.
  4. Add categories and images.
  5. Save the item so the slug and preview tools are available.
  6. Use the Preview Link if you want to review the article before public release.
  7. Turn on Approved when it is ready for members or visitors to see.
  8. Review the main news page and, if needed, the article detail page.

Fields in News

Page/Window Title

Use Page/Window Title for the browser title and search-facing title of the article.

Tip:

  • This can be slightly different from the visible article headline if you want a more search-friendly title.

Published Date

Use Published Date for the article's published date.

Helpful detail:

  • non-pinned items are sorted with newer published dates first

Slug

Use Slug for the article's URL at /news/{slug}.

Helpful detail:

  • Clubistry validates news slugs so two news items cannot use the same slug

Meta Description

Use Meta Description for the short description that can be used in search results and social previews.

Pinned

Use Pinned when an article should stay at the top of news lists.

Helpful detail:

  • pinned items appear before other news items, then sort by Published Date within the pinned group

Active

Use Active as the main on/off switch for whether the article can appear on the website.

Approved

Use Approved when the article is ready for public view.

Helpful detail:

  • unapproved items can still be reviewed with the Preview Link, but they do not appear in the public news list

Categories

Use Categories to organize the article and to control which items appear in teaser sections.

Helpful details:

  • categories are shared with Events and FAQs
  • the full News Page section does not filter by category
  • the News Teasers (3) Section can filter by selected categories

Activation Date

Use Activation Date if you want the article hidden until a specific date.

Deactivation Date

Use Deactivation Date if you want the article to stop showing automatically after a specific date.

Headline

Use Headline for the visible article title visitors read on the website.

Teaser Blurb

Use Teaser Blurb for the short summary shown in news lists and teaser blocks.

Content

Use Content for the full body of the article.

Teaser Image

Use Teaser Image for the image shown in the news list and teaser sections.

Helpful details:

  • the image uses a required 4:3 crop
  • you can upload a new image or choose existing media
  • save the news item after cropping so the teaser uses the updated framing
  • the field shows the current maximum upload size allowed by your site settings

Teaser Image Alt Text

Use Teaser Image Alt Text to describe the teaser image for accessibility.

Social Media Image

Use Social Media Image for link previews when the article is shared.

Helpful details:

  • the image uses a required 40:21 crop
  • you can upload a new image or choose existing media
  • use a separate image when the shared-link crop needs different framing than the teaser image
  • if you do not add one, Clubistry can fall back to the teaser image for sharing metadata

Preview Link

After the item has been saved, the detail screen shows a Preview Link you can use to review the article before it is fully published.

How news appears on the website

Main news page

The main news listing is typically managed as a normal page in Pages, often with the slug news.

Helpful details:

  • that page usually includes the News Page section
  • the section shows approved news items that are also active
  • pinned items appear first, then the rest sort by Published Date with newer items first
  • visitors see the headline, published date, optional teaser image, and teaser blurb

Individual news pages

Each saved news item uses its slug for a detail URL such as /news/your-article-slug.

Helpful details:

  • the detail display is rendered through the page whose slug is news-detail
  • if an item is inactive, the detail page does not load for normal visitors
  • if an item is not approved yet, the preview workflow is used instead of a normal public page view

News teaser sections

If you want a smaller preview block, use the News Teasers (3) Section on a page.

Helpful details:

  • teaser sections can show up to three news items
  • teaser sections can filter by selected categories
  • teaser sections are useful on home pages or landing pages when you want a short list instead of the full archive

If a news item is not showing

Check these items first:

  • the item is marked Active
  • the item is marked Approved
  • the activation and deactivation dates are not excluding it
  • the page or section where you expect it to appear is active
  • the selected teaser categories include the item, if you are checking a teaser block
  • the item was saved successfully if you are waiting for the Preview Link
