Promo Blocks
Use Promo Blocks to create reusable linked callouts that can appear in page content sections and in sidebars on pages using the Default layout.
What Promo Blocks are
Promo Blocks are reusable promotional items with a headline, link, and optional supporting content.
Helpful details:
- Each promo block has an internal Name plus website-facing content such as Headline, Text, Button Text, Url, and Image.
- Promo blocks can be selected inside page content sections.
- On pages using the Default layout, eligible promo blocks can also appear in the sidebar.
- If a promo block is marked inactive, it stops displaying in page sections and in sidebar promo areas.

- Go to Promo Blocks in the Club Management Portal.
- Click Create Promo Block, or open an existing promo block to edit it.
- Fill in the main fields.
- Add or choose the image.
- Review the link settings.
- Decide whether the promo should be available in interior page sidebars.
- Save the promo block.
Main fields
Name
The Name is required.
Helpful details:
- This is for internal identification.
- The name does not display on the website.
- Use a clear name so your team can tell similar promo blocks apart later.
Active
The Active setting is turned on by default.
Helpful details:
- Active promo blocks can be selected in page promo sections.
- Active promo blocks can also appear in eligible sidebars if Show in Interior Pages (Sidebar)? is turned on.
- Turning a promo block inactive removes it from page-section display and sidebar display.
Headline
The Headline is required.
Helpful details:
- This is the main text visitors see on the promo block.
- Some promo templates make the headline grow on hover.
- Shorter headlines are usually safer and easier to read across screen sizes.
Text
Use Text for supporting copy when a layout has room for it.
Helpful details:
- Sidebar promo blocks can show this text.
- The vertical three-block promo section templates can show this text.
- Background-image promo templates do not show this text.
Button Text
Use Button Text when you want a button label on supported layouts.
Helpful details:
- Sidebar promo blocks can show button text.
- Vertical three-block promo section templates can show button text.
- Background-image promo templates do not show button text.
Url
The Url is required.
Helpful details:
- Use a full URL when linking to another website.
- Use a path like
/eventswhen linking to a page on your own website. - Every promo block uses this saved link wherever the promo appears.
Image
The Image uses the shared media library.
Helpful details:
- You can upload a new image or choose existing media.
- The image must be cropped to a 4:3 shape.
- After uploading or choosing existing media, use the crop controls in the field and then save the promo block.
- The field help says the image displays at approximately 400 x 300 pixels.
- The maximum upload size follows the shared site media limit and is currently 10MB.
- Upload a separate copy if another part of the site needs a very different crop.
Alt Text
Use Alt Text to describe the image.
Helpful details:
- This helps screen readers and other assistive tools.
- It is worth filling in whenever the image adds useful meaning.
- Keep it specific and natural.
Is External Link?
Use Is External Link? when the promo should open in a new browser tab.
Helpful details:
- This is helpful for links to other websites.
- It can also be helpful for files such as PDFs.
- Leave it off for normal links to pages within your own website.
Show in Interior Pages (Sidebar)?
Use Show in Interior Pages (Sidebar)? to decide whether the promo can join the sidebar promo pool on Default layout pages.
Helpful details:
- If this is turned on, the promo can be chosen for eligible sidebars while still being available for page sections.
- If this is turned off, the promo can still be used in page sections.
- If you want no sidebar promos at all, turn this setting off on every promo block.
Notes
Use Notes for internal reminders only.
Helpful detail:
- Notes do not display on the website.
How promo blocks are reused
In page content sections
Promo blocks can be selected in page promo sections, such as the Promo Blocks, 3 Blocks section.
Helpful details:
- The page section decides which promo blocks appear.
- The page section keeps the selected order.
- If a selected promo block is later marked inactive, it no longer renders in that section.
In sidebars on Default layout pages
Promo blocks can also appear in the sidebar on pages using the Default page layout.
Helpful details:
- Sidebar promo blocks come from active promo blocks with Show in Interior Pages (Sidebar)? turned on.
- Up to three eligible promo blocks are shown.
- On interior pages, the sidebar selection is random.
- Promo blocks already used in promo sections on the same page are excluded from that page's sidebar rotation.
- Landing layout pages do not include this sidebar promo area.
What different layouts can show
The way a promo block looks depends on the page section or sidebar that uses it.
Helpful details:
- Sidebar promo blocks can show the image, headline, text, and button text.
- The vertical three-block promo section templates can show the headline, text, and button text, with or without an image depending on the chosen template.
- The background-image three-block promo section templates show the image and headline only.
- Every layout still uses the promo block's saved link.
Practical setup tips
- Use an internal Name that tells your team where or why the promo is used.
- Keep headlines short enough to stay readable on hover and on smaller screens.
- Match the image to the link destination so the promo feels clear at a glance.
- Add Alt Text whenever the image adds meaning.
- Turn Active off instead of deleting a promo block when you may need it again later.
- Review the finished promo on an actual page, especially if you are using a hover-heavy template.
If a promo block is not behaving as expected
Check these items first:
- the promo block is still marked Active
- the Url is correct
- the image was saved successfully
- Is External Link? is turned on if you expected a new tab
- Show in Interior Pages (Sidebar)? is turned on if you expected sidebar use on Default layout pages
- the page section you are testing supports the fields you expected to show
- the promo block is not already used in a promo section on that same page if you expected it to also appear in the sidebar
